Mother's Day can be a very conflicting holiday for many women. Perhaps it's a wonderful day filled with many happy memories, or perhaps it is a day that continually reminds one of grief and loss. Most of us probably have some of both feelings. It's also likely, if the predominant feeling is a negative one, we feel guilty that we aren't filled with happiness.
My day is filled with mixed emotions, but dare I even state that on the Internet? I certainly am grateful for my children and the many happy memories that I do have, but the sad memories still nag and won't stop tugging at my heart.
So I hope you grandmothers are having mostly a Happy Mother's Day. My children and grandchildren do not live near me (thank goodness for Facebook and text messaging), so I think I will go for a walk with my dog or go wash my car or something.
Happy Mother's Day to all, and if you are more lonely than happy, just know there are many women who feel like you, but let's get rid of the guilt.
