Tonight I had the most phenomenal and rewarding experience; I just had to write about it. A couple of months ago I moved to Florida and contacted a local grandparents raising grandchildren support group to see if they would like me to be a guest speaker at their meeting. They were delighted to have me come. It was an amazing evening, as I finally for the first time in a long time felt I was among kindred spirits. They meet twice a month, and I was even invited back to simply be part of their group, even though I no longer have my grandchildren. I believe I might just take them up on that. I met some amazingly strong women and men, even great grandparents raising a child. Some were married and some were single. There were even a couple of single grandfathers raising grandchildren. I mostly hear from grandmothers, so it was delightful to meet men who were equally devoted to their grandchildren.
If any of the grandparents that I met tonight read this, just know how thankful I am that I met you. I will be back.
