I received the following email from a grandmother in Vermont today.
"I started a support group in 2006 after personally needing emotional support, and continue to hold monthly meetings. In fact, today we will be having a "SPA Day" and 5 of our caregivers will be pampered and given goodie bags to take home so they can continue to take care of themselves." I just want to state that I think it is great when someone takes such initiative. I didn't have much luck starting a support group in my community, but then I guess I didn't put that much energy into it. My efforts to support other grandparents comes via the computer and writing. But I think is terrific for those who are successful in helping their local grandparents. If anyone has any success stories, please email me at raisinggrandchildren@earthlink.net or leave a comment. A grandmother in love with her grandchildren
It is vital for those in caregiving situations to take care of themselves. It's even more important for those of us who are no longer young!

To your point, the Internet is a great way to connect with and support other grandparents. I've found that, often, we can leverage these relationships offline as well, so connections we make on the Internet can sometimes cross over into community support groups, etc. This is great!
