There are so many inexpensive activities we can do with our grandchildren that are memorable. While the grandchildren may love going to the Water Park, that may be a once a year activity, if at all, for many grandparents.
Our children still talk about the hike we took in our neighbor's cow pasture. They loved it. The cows were in a different pasture, but the cow pies weren't. Our neighbor owns hundreds of hilly acres in pasture land. We trekked about an hour up and down hills. The scenery was beautiful, and the girls enjoyed walking around the cow pies. I still think it is funny that this is one of their most cherished memories.
It didn't cost us a dime, not even any gasoline. I of course got permission first from our neighbor. The only requirement was that we made certain to close the pasture gate behind us.
As soon as the weather is a bit warmer, I have promised another hike through the cow pasture.

I am so glad I came across your site. We have been fighting for custody for our granddaughters for the last year and half. They are ages 3 & 6 now. We did receive custody 2 weeks ago. I was overwhelmed with relief. However, the stress is now getting to me. My husband is a pastor and now has taken a job substitute teaching to help supplement our income. I work 40 hours a week also. I am finding that I am so overwhelmed and exhausted this last week. Since my husband is gone a lot, most of the household workload has fallen upon me. I don't have time to do things with the girls. I am constantly doing laundry, cooking, and cleaning house. It isn't like I am deepcleaning, I am just trying to be able to walk thru the house without tripping over things. I have given small chores for the girls to do. I try to include them in the day to day activities. But with that and trying to get homework and baths and supper ready in the evening is more than I can manage lately. I know it must be stress that I am dealing with (now we have to pay the lawyer) as I was able to manage this before. I do not find time to do anything for myself such as reading a book, or playing the piano. At any rate, I know it will be worth it to have these precious little girls safe and loved. Thank you again for your website. I wish I had found it before now.

How funny that cows have such a profound meaning to children. We used to live next to a dairy and the owner let the kids feed the cows, but one day they were gone and the kids wailed for days that someone stole 'their' cows! They still love seeing cows when we go on trips!
